Leave it in the Hands of Love
I went back home, to the East Coast, where I am from. Was trying to see if I should move back there, was open to some kind of sign. I spent 3 days in upstate NY, and 3 days in NYC, here, painting room 817 in a pretty rad art jam. I fell off a ladder and really hurt myself. And was reminded of how small, and expensive, and in some ways the same as Portland New York is. Then I went to CT for a week. And a tornado came into my back yard and felled a 10 ton tree that fell on my childhood home while my mother and I were inside.
We were on the news but couldn't see the news because we didn't have power.
My childhood best friend had a beautiful baby.
Seeing my awesome family was the best.We are so lucky everyone is happy and healthy.
Lots of things happened to me while I was there this time that are changing me into a different person. I'm coming back to Portland jobless, physically banged up, almost 29, and definitely more than a little confused, but very hopeful. Portland is my home for now, for better or worse, and my heart will reside on both coasts sometimes.

Oregon Live Shout Out
The first time a mainstream pub has recognized my work for anything other than being gay.
A brief sentence but that will suffice. The work at Sword + Fern comes down tomorrow.

TONIGHT

It's been a crazy week for me-which is why I haven't blogged about my ART OPENING until 4 hours before-hand. Whoops. (Crazy is relatively speaking, I'm certainly not on the Left Bank or anything right now.) I have an opening tonight, at Sword and Fern. A totally totally wonderful shop. 811 East Burnside. Run by the incredibly talented, sweet, and all around right on Emily Baker.
5:30--8:30
Please come see my new installation. It is made out of graphite, paper, hand dyed fabric, stones, and trees. It is called "New Work". This installation created especially for the space takes on the subject of love lost and found. A forest of creatures, healing plants and patterns has been created as a meditation space for the viewer to ruminate on support, solace, and the numerous gains that stem from loss.
