Some art I made is up at the Half n' Half in downtown Portland right now.
This is what it says on the Half n' Half's blog about the show:
Sarah Gottesdiener uses pattern and symmetry in this series of colorful paintings to depict a personal cosmology through emblem. Sacred imagery, heraldic crests, the zodiac, and avant-garde wallpaper patterns such as those by the Wiener Werkstatte are recalled in a graphic style both bold and delicate. Sarah writes:"In this collection of paintings, I am exploring the differences between the straight and queer worlds, the corporate offices and internal energy fields and chakras, between capitalism and free, spirited flow and love, between societal norms and uncontrived actions."
Sarah Gottesdiener is an artist and musician living in Portland,
OR. She has shown her art in almost every non-traditional art space in Portland, and even a few traditional spaces, including Holocene, The Ace Hotel, Valentines, and Mark Wooley Gallery. She has made murals, t-shirt designs, and album artwork for the Rock and Roll Camp for Girls, Uniqlo, Sarah Dougher and Cex Fucx. Her artwork has been published in a bunch of magazines and zines, including Plazm, Make/shift, Maybe It's Something You Ate, and the upcoming Coloring Outside the Lines. She is one half of the art/illustration/design duo Spirit Palace Studios, with the lovely Olivia Edith Fuente. She plays music in bands Gay Deceivers and the SGs, and performed at PICA’s Time Based Art Festival in 2007. Every second Saturday she djs a dance night called White Light Dance Night at Valentines with her brother, DJ Girlfriends.
